Chestnuts for Sale on the Street in Portugal
It was warm the first week or so in Spain but by the time we got to Portugal, we had some cool nights and even some cool days.
The last two or three days in Portugal, I saw a number of street merchants cooking chestnuts and selling them. The smoking chestnuts actually smell pretty good. Apparently, chestnuts are an old favorite here. The first image is a 1000 year old chestnut tree in Portugal (I am not sure if Portugal was hit by the chestnut plague that nearly wiped out the North American species).
The second image is similar to the scene I described.
Both images are from gettyimages.com
